Skills
Constricting Net
Binds a target enemy and squeezes it, immobilizing it and damaging it for 4 seconds. Deals 16 damage per second. Damage and the amount of time the net is in place increases with each level.
Cluster Rockets
Blasts mini rockets out of your suit which scatter and explode, dealing 600 damage to units in the radius. Damage, cooldown, area, rocket amount, range, and stun duration improve with each level.
Critical Shot
Critical shot gives a 15% chance to deal extra damage when firing your weapon. This skill is essential to ensure maximum damage can be dealt to moderate and large hostiles. Additional points increase the damage multiplier.
Engineering Skills
Combat Engineers are taught advanced engineering and demolition skills for their deployment in the field. This is an extra set of skills.
- Level 1 - Learns Repair
This skill is used for repairing all kinds of mechanical things. This includes M70 Sentry guns, Tanks, APCs, and Helicopters.
- Level 2 - Learns Paralysis Trap
Places a Trap that detonates after a period of time and damages and zombies. All units hit by the trap get pushed back. Does not hurt allies, but will push them.
- Level 3 - Learns C4, Detonate, and Detonation Cord
The Engineer may place C4s. They must be primed with the Detonation Cord ability before they can be detonated. All primed C4s are detonated at the same time with the Detonate ability. An Engineer can only have 4 C4s at any given time.
- Level 4 - Learns Barricade, and Sentry Gun
The Engineer can set up Barricades and Sentry Guns. Very good for camping.
- Level 5 - Learns Energy Generator and Satchel Charge
Improves the Engineer's energy regeneration rate. The combat engineer and also plant Satchel Charges. Satchel Charges must be primed and detonate 5 seconds after being primed. They deal 18,000 damage in a 1,200 radius. Only one charge can be used at a time.
Strategies
For skill points, you should always put your first skill point into Cluster Rockets and then max out Engineering Skills. Cluster Rockets beat the pants off grenades as the rockets stun and deal damage faster because grenades have to wait before they explode, rockets don't. The Engineering Skills are essential because they allow you to camp very well.
If you are camping you should always go prone as it give you +125 to your damage. If you have AP rounds and an SA combat shotgun you could very well do 500+ damage with every shot.
Satchel Charge is (to my knowledge) the most powerful ability in the game. It deals more damage and has a bigger blast than the Ion Cannon. However, it is much harder to use properly, and you can easily kill half your squad if they don't know what is going on. Use with caution.
Combat Engineers are amazing in Umbrella mode. In Umbrella mode, most of the time you will camp and area that has some natural weakness and the ability to remove that weakness in incredibly valuable. How? Let's say you camp at the north hill, it has 3 weaknesses.
1) It is directly over a spawn point and if you get distracted (by Umbrellas/Bosses) those zombies could be a real problem.
2) It is hard to see out of without the aid of flares/cameras.
3) There is a direct route from an Umbrella spawn point to the hill. Add problems 2 & 3 together and an Umbrella Assaultman can fire 2-3 missiles before you can take him out. The Combat Engineer can deal with problems 1 and 3. For problem 1, He can put up barricades and sentry guns. The barricades will stop non-flying zombies and the sentries will mow down the spawned zombies while you take care of bigger thing that would distract you. For problem 3, he can use his C4s in the little valley between the hill and the north town, wait for the Umbrellas to come, and then blow them to pieces. That is why the Combat Engineer is so great for Umbrella mode.
